The Literacy Council of North Central Indiana

Our Programs

One:One Adult Tutoring—a volunteer tutor is trained and paired with an adult learner. Together they work on learner centered goals while improving reading, writing and comprehension skills.

Skill Builders Workshop—offered in conjunction with South Bend, Elkhart, and Plymouth Adult Education. This program provides small group instruction to learners who have difficulty succeeding in the GED classroom. After participating in the workshop, they are then better prepared to take the GED exam or participate in the classroom setting.

Babies & Books—offered to parents of newborns and infants up to two years of age. This program is conducted at convenient locations to attendees. This program focuses on infant brain development, literacy training and awareness. Both parents and their infants enjoy this program.

Early Literacy Workshops—offered to children three to six years of age, their parents and caregivers. These workshops focus on literacy through related activities of story reading, craft activity, music and movement, all demonstrated with a hands on approach.

Early Literacy Everyday—offers quality children’s books and related literacy learning activities through our “Lending Library” program.

All of our programs are offered free of charge to participants.

We are the only free literacy service in North Central Indiana.
